Lighthouse Point Police Department Receives Top International Law Enforcement Award
2012 IACP/Motorola Webber Seavey Award for Quality in Law Enforcement
The Lighthouse Point Police Department was honored as one of only three law enforcement agencies worldwide to win the 2012 IACP/Motorola Webber Seavey Award for Quality in Law Enforcement. The award is presented annually by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and Motorola, and is the highest department recognition internationally for innovative law enforcement programs.
The award honors the department for its 'Transient Offender Interdiction Program', an innovative approach to incorporating License Plate Recognition Technology with proactive policing strategies. The project focuses on the development of successful leads in criminal apprehension, criminal case clearances, and the recovery of stolen property, all in an effort to protect and improve the quality of life for those who live in Lighthouse Point. Since its inception, the Department has attributed nearly 70 arrests and the recovery of nearly $500,000 in stolen property to the program.
The Lighthouse Point Police Department Transient Offender Interdiction Program was selected by an international panel of law enforcement executives from programs nominated worldwide. Other 2012 winners include the Albuquerque New Mexico Police Department and Fontana Police Department in California.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is the world's oldest and largest non-profit association for law enforcement executives. Established in 1893, the IACP has over 14,000 members representing 82 nations. The IACP is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia.
Lighthouse
Point Police Department -- Accredited since 2000
The
Lighthouse Point Police Department was first accredited by the Commission
for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. (CFA) in June of
2000. In June 2004, and most recently in June of 2010 the Department
was reaccredited by CFA. CFA reviewed all aspects of the Department’s
policies and procedures, management, operations and support services
to determine compliance with 276 recognized standards of excellence.
Many of the standards are critical to life, health and safety issues.
Undergoing the voluntary accreditation process provides an agency
with a “quality assurance review” and encourages intense
self-scrutiny, resulting in more efficient and effective daily operations.
Accreditation by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation
and Recognition by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement
Agencies, Inc. are considered significant accomplishments held in
high esteem by the criminal justice community.
